Final Designs:
In conclusion, it is evident that the second design meets most of my specifications successfully. I believe that this design will be very effective at delivering the message to most of those who see it, and will encourage thoughts. I believe that the design is of high quality because it involves shading techniques, shadow, and a different style of drawing throughout. Although the first design involves perspective, I believe that it would be too complicated to do successfully in such a large scale. I have given out the survey to 5 people who have seen the design, and it scored 100%, which is 20% higher than my requirement in the first specification that I have listed, also counting for the second specification, since the survey asked the viewers what they thought the piece meant. The third specification is not applicable for this; however, the murals design was very easily adaptable to fit different circumstances, since I could always stretch open the mouth in different ways. In comparison to the first design, which is the second highest scoring; the perspective on the second design would be hard to create especially if the wall was high. Free handing this design would have been very unsuccessful. The fifth specification is also not applicable. Finally, the design does invoke some thought, and will attract a lot of attention due to its complex colours and the combination of different elements within the mouth. It will not be completely simple to interpret, but it will definitely attract attention and provoke different ideas and opinions. In conclusion, I think that second first design will be my final design chosen, and I will build on it when I see the size of the wall.
My start
date:
22nd of January
The end date:
6th of March, 8th of March, including the testing.
During the planning I need to consider the following:
Semester Break, (21st of February-1st of March). I will be out of town for most of this time, which will be a major issue in terms of scheduling and planning to complete the mural. The times that I will be out of town are very difficult to determine. Refer to the detailed plan (process journal entry three), dates 21st to 28th of February to see how I planned to utilise my time during break, and managed to organise my travels and school work.
Another possible issue would be the snow days, since it could snow some days throughout February, although it is not possible to predict exactly when. To see my time organisation, see dates 10, 13, 14 in entry 3.
Key Dates:
I should have completed the following. Refer to the specific plan to see the time management skills (entry three).
22nd of January
I should have gotten permission from Ms. Thompson to create the mural at school in case I do not find a spot outside of school to put it up. I will set up a very quick meeting with her to discuss the possibilities. I have a few areas in mind about where to put it. I am planning to ask for this permission as soon as possible, just to have a back up plan in case I do not find another wall in Istanbul. This will be my first step in ensuring that I can put up the mural.
11th of February
By this date, I plan to have found legal permission to build the mural at a specific location in Istanbul. This is because I will need a long period of time to create the mural, and I must insure that I have extra time, in case problems arise. For example, weather, scheduling issues, running out of supplies, etc. I will do this by contacting a turkish speaker to help me get in contact with the presidents of certain municipalities to communicate the idea of putting up the mural in their specific areas.
6th of March
The mural should be completed by this date, ready to begin the testing. I have given myself 20 days to complete the mural, and I think that this would be fair, since then the work will be spread out to different times, and I will not be put under a time strain. I will divide up all of the time evenly, so I have a lot of time to reflect on how everything is going, and research more techniques about
8th of March
The testing should be completed by this date, to give myself time to organise the results of the test, ready for submission and the exhibition. I will also give myself this time just in case there is an issue with the results or the accuracy that I could possibly need to redo.
